La Fontana di Trevi è la più grande e nota fontana di Roma ed anche del mondo. Il monumento, in stile rococò, raffigura Oceano su un cocchio a forma di conchiglia trainato da cavalli marini guidati da tritoni. La tradizione è legata al lancio della monetina, voltando le spalle alla fontana ad occhi chiusi ci si propizierebbe un futuro ritorno nella città. La tradizione deriverebbe dall’antica usanza di gettare nelle fonti sacre oboli o piccoli doni per propiziarsi le divinità locali, come per i pozzi dei desideri ed è così nota che sono pochi i turisti che si sottraggono al rito del lancio della monetina.

The Trevi Fountain is the largest and most famous fountain in Rome and in the world. The rococo style monument depicts Ocean on a shell-shaped chariot pulled by sea horses guided by newts. Tradition is linked to the tossing of the coin, turning one’s back on the fountain with closed eyes, a future return to the city would be propitiated. The tradition derives from the ancient custom of throwing morgues or small gifts into the sacred sources to propitiate the local deities, and it is thus known that few tourists escape the toss ceremony.
